This presentation highlights a unique, grant-funded collaboration between Winston-Salem State University’s OT/PT program educators and Mayo Clinic’s OT/PT clinical educators created to strengthen students’ transition from the classroom to the clinical environment. Building on more than a decade of shared educational successes, the two institutions jointly participated in a two-day, high-fidelity simulation course designed to develop curriculum that better prepares students to manage complex patient acuity, communicate effectively across professions, and navigate crucial conversations in high-stakes settings.

In response to the increasing need for hospital-based clinical learning opportunities, the partners customized simulation scenarios to expose students to realistic clinical situations and to familiarize them with evidence-based communication tools before beginning their clinical rotations.
