Individuals with lower limb loss often experience significant physical, psychosocial, and functional challenges that impact their ability to resume life roles and routines. Many of these individuals subsequently utilize a lower limb prosthesis to participate in meaningful occupations. While disruptions in occupational engagement are common, Occupational Therapy (OT) has not been as consistently recognized as a central contributor in lower limb prosthetic care and rehabilitation compared to other members of the interdisciplinary team.
This course aims to shift the narrative, positioning Occupational Therapy Practitioners (OTPs) as essential members of the interdisciplinary team while advocating for the importance of utilizing our full scope of practice. It highlights OT’s unique contributions in promoting dignity, autonomy, and meaningful participation in daily life for individuals using lower limb prostheses.
