Living after Surviving: The Critical Care Recovery Center at Duke University Hospital

Louise (Meg) Williamson, OTR/L, BCPR

Physical Rehabilitation & Chronic Conditions | Audience Level: Advanced

After attending this course, the OTP will understand the complexities of post intensive care syndrome, the long term deficits that arise after an ICU stay and how occupational therapy can be involved in the recovery process. This course will also review program development, interdisciplinary networking and how a clinic was formed at a large teaching hospital. In this advanced course, we will dive into statistics of ICU survival, how cognitive impairments can impact someone’s ability to return to work, driving, caregiving and other multi-faceted life roles. With the autonomy given in the OT practice, we can learn from each other how to be creative, push the boundaries and advocate for our patients who have survived the impossible.
