AOTA's Director of Payment Policy Kim Karr, OTR/L, FAOTA, CPHQ, RAC-CT notes: While the MPFS governs Medicare Part B payment, its impact extends well beyond the Medicare program. In many states, Medicaid payment rates are tied to Medicare payment levels, meaning Medicare policy changes can influence Medicaid reimbursement for occupational therapy services. Additionally, state Medicaid programs often look to Medicare coverage, coding, and reporting policies when determining which services and codes occupational therapy practitioners may bill and under what circumstances.
|
For these reasons, CMS decisions regarding Medicare Part B can have significant downstream effects on payment, access, and the availability of OT services across state Medicaid programs. We encourage you to help amplify AOTA's message and urge practitioners, students, educators, and advocates to submit comments to CMS before the September 14 deadline.
